NORTHERN VOICES
Vocals woven out of my Icelandic memories; out of the landscapes of the North; out of the wish to explore unmapped territories… around me and inside me – in the voice!
SEMA Studio followed these fascinations of mine by recording and documenting on film my vocal inspirations with the Far North. The long-awaited “video clip” can now not only be heard, but also… “peeked at”.
The video clip engages us in the pursuit of nature… Also the nature of the voice.
Konieczny…? Koniecznie!
Zygmunt Konieczny arrived in person for the first public presentation of the new arrangements of his songs. His enthusiasm, greeted with great satisfaction by the artists, matches the extraordinary applause of the audience. As a result, the project took on an even more spectacular form. It simply CALLED for further development! The composer himself wrote a song specially for Agata Zubel, while Cezary Duchnowski agreed to add a symphonic layer to the electronic material he had previously prepared. All this will be heard for the first time in January 2017, at Zygmunt Konieczny’s anniversary celebrations in Katowice.
AGATA ZUBEL – voice, BARTEK WĄSIK – piano, ANDRZEJ BAUER – cello, CEZARY DUCHNOWSKI – electronics
History of Vocal Music A-Z
This new project, prepared in collaboration with a leading early music ensemble – ARTE DEI SUONATORI, is not so much about contrasting radically different aesthetics as about finding a common denominator and disproving the myth of impassable boundaries of expression. The project draws on the timeless quality in music. In simple terms – Mozart and Stockhausen meet in Wonderland.

“Imagination-Grabbing, Trailblazing Artists of 2014” recommended by WQXR Radio
Listening to Agata Zubel’s music you get the sense of a composer who is restless, searching, embryonic. Watching her sing her music live, you get the added dimension of your own mesmerized, unsettling voyeurism of an act of powerful, original creation. Zubel is an ascendant voice in new music whose music demands to be heard and seen.

Other Minds Music Festival Residency in San Francisco
Each year Other Minds invites composers of differing nationalities, ages and styles to bring their music to the Festival and a prior four-day private residency in the South Bay hills, where they exchange music and ideas. “This year we are thrilled to welcome Louis Andriessen (Netherlands), I Wayan Balawan (Indonesia), Han Bennink (Netherlands), Kyle Gann (U.S.), Janice Giteck (U.S.), David A. Jaffe (U.S.), Jason Moran (U.S.), and Agata Zubel (Poland) – eight composers whose work we deeply admire and who, we expect, will have a great deal to say to one another and to our audiences,” reports Charles Amirkhanian, Executive and Artistic Director of Other Minds.
